Author of:
Ted George Goertzel, Ph.D., is Professor of Sociology at Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey. His article, "Cradles of Eminence: Then and Now," appeared in Parenting for High Potential Magazine in June, 2004. In addition to the update of Cradles of Eminence, he has done research on the childhoods of entrepreneurs and computer scientists. He is the author of the book, Linus Pauling: A Life in Science and Politics.

Dr. Goertzel has spoken on Cradles of Eminence at many national, state, and local meetings of parents and educators. His talks contain information and details that are both entertaining and of value to those interested in parenting and/or teaching gifted children.

The first edition of Cradles of Eminence was published by Dr. Goertzel's parents, Mildred and Victor Goetzel, in 1962. It was an absorbing study of the childhoods more than 400 eminent men and women, relating to their achievement to their family and school experiences. It became a classic in the field of gifted education, and continued to be in great demand even after it went out of print. The new second edition includes the complete text of the original classic book, together with a new sample of men and women who became eminent after the first was published.

Dr. Goertzel received his doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis and his undergraduate degree from Antioch College. He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and is currently doing research on leadership and social change in Latin America. Many of his writings, and some powerpoint presentations on Cradles of Eminence and related research, can be found on his website.
